Review: 3CE Velvet Lip Tints.

It’s no secret that 3CE is one of my favourite Korean brands. I mean, whatever little I’ve tried from them I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. What’s more, I feel like the brand knows quite a bit about how to excite its consumers.

 

THE PRODUCT: I adore Park Sora and for me, how she uses and wears a product influences my desire to buy it and try it for myself. Say what you want about her but you can’t deny her ability to completely draw you in. I feel like she plays a big part in 3CE’s overall branding – she’s been the face of the brand for as long as I can remember and it makes sense why.

THE PRODUCT: These Velvet Lip Tints follow the same colour-coded theme as most other lip products from 3CE do these days. Not only is the cardboard box colour-coded to match the actual lip colour, so is the component of the Lip Tint. The component itself, albeit slim and sleek, is quite heavy and sturdy. The applicator is your usual doe-foot applicator.

 

The scent of these Lip Tints remind me of the Huda Beauty Liquid Lipsticks. It smells like sweet coconuts. Go figure. The scent, thankfully, isn’t overwhelming and quickly dissipates after application.

 

These Velvet Lip Tints have strong colour pay-off and are very pigmented. They’re also quite opaque – not fully so with only one dip/swipe, you’d need to build the colour up in at least two layers to reach full opacity. One layer leaves a soft, blotted look behind and layering it on would result in a stronger and bolder look.

 

With their mousse-y and velvety consistency, these go on very smoothly and don’t tug on the lips during application. They’re also very forgiving wherein they don’t emphasize lip-lines or chapped lips. These Lip Tints contain a couple of different oils (sunflower seed oil and calendula oil) in its formula, which would explain why they feel so good on the lips.

 

I would say these have a velvet-matte finish.

 

They’re as long-wearing as your matte formulations but they’re comfortable like most velvet formulas tend to be. You get the best of both worlds, really. They last a good 4-5 hours and wear beautifully throughout the day. These are not completely transfer-proof and typically don’t last beyond meals. They do, however, leave a soft stain behind. Touch-ups are also as easy as pie with these.

 

If you do find them drying – I’m aware some people have perennially dry and chapped lips – a little prep before application wouldn’t hurt. Literally. Make sure a good lip-balm has your back at all times.

 

 

 

 

 

SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: There are 18+ shades in this range. I say 18+ because there was a shade extension recently and I’m unaware what the total number currently is.

 

• ‘Childlike’ – A warm tomato red. It has a strong orange undertone.
• ‘Persistence’ – A blue-toned plum. It has a strong purple undertone.

♥ OVERALL: I absolutely adore this formula. It’s a very elegant Lip Tint and I honestly don’t think other velvet Lip Tint formulas compare. If you’re in the market for these, I would advise you to wait for sales or offers. That way, you won’t feel the sting of its steep price-tag.
