Ahhhh, I can’t believe I finally have my hands on something from Flower Knows! This is the first of many posts I have lined up, too.

THE BACKSTORY: It’s wild to me that, like many other brands, I have followed Flower Knows from its inception. It was founded by two now-retired professional cosplayers Baozi and Hana from China (follow them on IG!). Their popularity as cosplayers can also be attributed to the fact that they were dating and in a relationship. They would do cosplays of famous gay ships or BL couples; from Cardcaptor Sakura, Free, Yuri on Ice to Ten Count. They eventually founded their makeup company back in 2016. I remember when they used to have a YouTube channel (they don’t anymore) and they’d use it to give the viewers a look at what goes on behind the scenes at their fast-growing company. They’d even do swatch videos and cute little challenges like seeing if their lipsticks were kiss-proof. It was truly a fun, positive channel for the most part – there were tough and sad moments too, with them chiming in on just how difficult queer relationships can be/get and to have a fully functioning company on top of it all.

To witness the growth and popularity of the brand has been insane. Now, I’m just happy to have some pieces from Flower Knows, as an adult with adult money. Sometimes, the slog you put yourself through is worth it.

THE PACKAGING: Listen, I usually write two brief sentences about product packaging. But for this? Do I even need to write anything? I think the pictures speak for themselves.

This blush is a part of their Midsummer Fairytales collection.

I just am in awe of how stunning the packaging is. It’s not something that simply looks good on the brand’s website. It’s gorgeous in real life. I love the mint green carton that it comes in. The oval-shaped mint-tinged compact with pink and floral details is to die for. It even has a mirror inside. It has a magnetic closure which I’m usually not a fan of. But in this case I shall overlook it. It also feels hefty and isn’t flimsy in the slightest. It’s just so, so, so pretty.

I really didn’t want to ruin the gorgeous embossing on the blush. I mean, look at her. She’s literally a fairy. I try my best to stick to the lower bit of the pan simply because I don’t want the brush to ruin the embossing. I’m trying my darndest here.

I’ve read reviews and seen videos of their powder blushes before and have head people’s complaints about how some shades can be chalky. I know for a fact that this company listens to their customers’ feedback in order to improve future products. This iteration of their powder blush formula seems to be the most polished and improved version that the brand offers. This is a fairly new collection so I understand why it’s also one of their better ones.

The formula is powdery and has a bit of kick-up when you use your brush. But it’s silky smooth. It lays down like it’s second skin. The finish is skin-like and fresh. I even find it blurring. It’s pigmented and its opacity can be built up. I like and have settled on two layers.

It’s fairly long-wearing for a powder blush. I think it performs great under controlled climates and tends to last longer when you set it with a good fixing spray.

It has a faint citrusy scent to it. Nothing too noticeable or overwhelming.

They gave me mini powder-puffs to use in tandem with this blush but I’m just going to stick to my blush brushes.

I just really like this product.

  • ‘05 Valley Lily’ – the brand calls it a taupe but I beg to differ. It’s a pastel fawn-ish peach.
