I finally decided to get my hands on this Makeup Revolution beauty. Just look at it. Isn’t it pretty???
THE BACKSTORY: Makeup Revolution has always been a popular brand in my country. It isn’t exactly the most affordable brand, considering how their products usually retail for more than 500 INR but they have their fair share of affordable items. I only started paying attention to the brand after hearing several Japanese bloggers talk about it. Even Kumamiki demonstrated, swatched and talked about their chocolate bar palettes. Those were immediately added to my wishlist! When Favor talked about their Blushing Hearts collection, I was sold. Turns out, it is an incredibly popular product locally and is almost always sold out. I had to secure this blush the moment it was back in stock. Who knew there was such a craze for Makeup Revolution products? I certainly missed the memo.
INGREDIENTS: Mica, Talc, Dimethicone, NYLON 12,MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, Methylparaben, Propylparaben(+/-); Mica, Titanium dioxide(CI77891), Iron Oxide(CI77491,CI77492,CI77499), D&C Red NO.6 Lake(CI15850), D&C RED NO.6(CI15850), D&C Red NO.7 Lake(CI15850), FD&C YELLOW No. 5 LAKE(CI19140), FD&C YELLOW NO.6 AL LAKE(CI15985), Manganese Violet(CI77742)
THE PRODUCT: Now, the product is a baked blush. I read up on the difference between a baked blush and a regular ol’ blush and I’ve linked it here. I think it’s an interesting read. The general consensus is that baked blushers tend to be creamier and have a lot more colour pay-off.
That, I agree with. The consistency of the blush is quite creamy, despite being a baked powder blush. It is incredibly pigmented. I do not say that lightly. The pigmentation of this blush rivals those of good quality eyeshadows.
A fluffy powder blush works best to pick it up (sparingly, that is) and a little goes a long way. Even if you pack on a lot of product, it is easy to blend out. That said, I think it is safer and wiser to go in with a light hand from the beginning.
It lasts surprisingly well too. At the end of the day, you’ll still be able to spot specks of shimmer on your cheeks. So much alliteration.
The only thing I am disappointed with is the flimsy and ridiculously thin cardboard packaging. Sure, it’s cute and everything but the quality isn’t even worth talking about. Even my little brother could do a better job if I handed him some cardboard and glue. Jokes apart, the packaging really isn’t what you’d call ideal for something you paid such a steep amount of money for. You can’t even travel with it, honestly.
SHADE: ‘Blushing Heart’
The blush is divided into 3 strips –
- A neutral mauve-ish pink that imparts a sheen to the face. It has fine shimmer running through it.
- A warm coral-y pink that imparts a sheen to the face. It has fine shimmer running through it.
- A blue-fuchsia that is packed with chunky silver glitter. The glitter particles in it are especially notice-able, though not extremely over-whelming once you blend it.
Swirl them all together and you’ve got a gorgeous, glittery neutral pink. Depending on how much of the fuchsia-pink or the coral-pink you use, you could work it to your undertone’s advantage. Or you could keep it neutral. It’s your call.
DUPE FOR: The entire Blushing Hearts line is a dupe for Too Faced Cosmetic’s Sweethearts Blushes. Having never tried the original, I cannot comment on how well they stack up against one another. However, I imagine the Makeup Revolution one could easily give the Too Faced version a run for its money.
PRICE: 1,050 INR for 10 grams of product.
AVAILABILITY: Makeup Revolution (International Shipping), Nykaa, Amazon etc
♥ I personally think you could skip this blush and save yourself some cash. If you want to buy it for the cutesy packaging and the shimmery goodness, go for it. However, I do not consider this a practical and everyday blush at all.
