Review: Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette.

IMG_5919 Hi, everyone. This is yet another long overdue post. I think I’ll make a blogging schedule now. Hopefully, I’ll stick to it. Unless, of course, it’s exam time. Let’s get started!

THE BACKSTORY: I have deep-set, hooded eyes. I honestly don’t find any use for huge eyeshadow palettes and the likes. The eyeshadow I’m always willing to wear is MAC’s Sushi Flower. Other than Sushi Flower, I love MAC’s Soba, Cranberry and Sketch. Also, palettes are usually stupidly expensive. This palette was launched this Summer. It was welcomed with such open arms by everybody – mostly because there was no other product like it in the market at the time (now British brands like Makeup Revolution and MUA are taking over with their palettes) and with such a feasible price-tag to boot.  Since everybody and their mother seems to love nudes, the hype that this product raised was amazing.

THE PRODUCT: The palette offers a range (12, if you’re into numbers) of different neutral eyeshadows, with different finishes. It comprises of different tones of browns and beiges with a black, gold and grey-ish taupe thrown in for good measure. Five of the eyeshadows are satin finishes (matte but not quite there yet) and the rest are shimmery with varying degrees of pearls or sparkle. The pigmentation differ from shadow to shadow and also from finish to finish. Some are creamy and easy to blend; the others are just downright disappointing. The shadows aren’t long lasting either. With a base/primer, they’ll last for 5 hours max, without fading. Without a base/primer, say goodbye to your eyeshadow look after a couple of hours.    (T⌓T)

The back of the palette has a sticker with instructions and how-to’s. The palette can be split into duos, trios and quads. I forgot to take a picture of the back, so, here’s one I found on the net.       ƪ(•̃͡ε•̃͡)∫ʃ

It is packaged in a  black plastic case with a transparent plastic lid. Not exactly the most travel-friendly but it’ll survive smaller and shorter trips. It comes with a dual-ended sponge applicator – a tool I’ve grown to love over time, actually – that has a pointier side and a regular side.

Overall, the palette is decent enough to buy if you’re someone who enjoys glamming up for different occasions, if you want to break into the world of eyeshadows but don’t know where to start yet or if you’re a makeup hoarder. While you’re at it, grab an eyeshadow primer too. Essence makes a pretty good one. I wrote about it here.

THE COLOURS: Here’s a list of the colours, swatched left to right; the top row first and the bottom one second. I named them with shade names I thought described them the best. The “” signifies whether they are pigmented/good or not.

  • Champagne – A creamy, smooth shimmery shade of champagne with lilac glitters.
  • Shimmery Taupe – This is a creamy, pretty taupe that has barely notice-able shimmers.
  • Beige – A light shade of beige that goes on like butter and blends like a dream. It’s a satin finish.
  • Bronze – One of the livelier shades in the palette; this one is an absolute stunner of a bronze eyeshadow. It’s metallic, shimmery and has just the right hint of gold micro-shimmers.
  • Grey Taupe – Another one with a satin finish, this is a lovely grey-ish taupe.
  • Espresso – Another one with a satin finish; this is a gorgeous dark brown with some grey undertones.

(2nd Row/Bottom Row)

  • Copper – A smooth, metallic bronze shade that is similar to the Bronze one in opacity and overall impact.
  • Milky Coffee – A coffee brown with a satin finish.
  • Light Gold – A peachy-gold with a metallic finish.
  • Chocolate – A milk chocolate brown; the stiffest of the lot. It’s also not as metallic as the others.
  • Pink Champagne – A lovely pink-ish champagne shade with a white base. (This is my personal favourite)
  • Black – A “matte” black with the shoddiest pigmentation and zero blend-ability. Such a dissapointment. Thank God for MAC Carbon.

TALLY: Zero – 4 shades (Shimmery Taupe, Light Gold, Chocolate, Black), One – 4 shades (Champagne, Beige, Grey Taupe, Espresso) and Two – 4 shades (Bronze, Copper, Milky Coffee, Pink Champagne).    (=^-ω-^=)

Cons

  • None of the shades are long-lasting.
  • Some shades are downright disappointing.
