I was on an unplanned no-buy for the month of September. It was unplanned mostly because I had to go through with it after finding out how broke I was after purchasing the RMK cheek thingy. Thankfully, it’s October now and I recently purchased these lipsticks to quench my thirst for some new lip colours.
THE BACKSTORY: Nykaa has become one of my go-to sites to shop for cosmetics and skincare locally. They house the most popular high-street brands (Maybelline, Lakmé, L’Oreal) and some indie brands as well. They have also started to add more lucrative brands to their site (Ciaté, NYX, Kiehl’s to name a few).
They have an in-house brand which makes some of the most fantastic nail polishes I’ve ever tried. Oh and they recently launched some matte lipsticks and I immediately purchased a few shades to try for myself.
THE PRODUCTS: Let me get one thing out of the way. I don’t think these are matte lipsticks. Semi-matte? Sure. Satin? Yeah, okay. I say so because I went the entire duration of Durga Puja using true-matte lipsticks and my lips felt the sting heavily at the end of it all.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t good lipsticks. I, in fact, love the fact that they aren’t true mattes. I love the bit of sheen and I greatly appreciate the hydration they provide my lips with. Moreover, if I simply blot them on a tissue, they become more matte while still retaining their smooth texture.
Anyway, so, these are extremely pigmented lipsticks. Their opacity is consistent throughout the 3 shades I bought. Like I mentioned before, they don’t tug on my lips or feel drying. They don’t emphasize my lip lines either. They are very comfortable to wear (thanks to them being infused with Vitamin E) and the colour stains the lips even after a huge meal. I would say these last for a good 6+ hours.
The matte black packaging looks quite nice but I’ll admit that I found it quite bulky. They all have a magnetic closure – which I’m not the biggest fan of. But, hey, at least the magnet is strong.

♥ OVERALL: I really do like these lipsticks and I look forward to picking up a couple of other shades. I’d definitely ask you to grab one to try for yourself. The price doesn’t hurt much either!
