I’m finally writing this review. Can’t believe it took me so long to type this up.
THE BACKSTORY: Lip Oils and me are literally 🤝🏻bffs. Rare Beauty came out with their variant sometime last year and they went viral immediately. I picked the first one up around October and instantaneously fell in love. But I have a few points to make below.
THE PRODUCT: To start, I quite like the packaging. I think Rare Beauty does packaging well – it’s simple but has a special little touch that sets them apart. I like the colour-coded components as well as the gold lid. It comes with a slanted doe-foot applicator, which is very standard.
That being said, the formula doesn’t really stand out to me. If you’re even the slightest bit of a beauty enthusiast, you would have come across this kind of gel-gloss-tint hybrid formula. This isn’t what I want when I see the term ‘Lip Oil’ slapped on a product. I expect something plush, something that gives me immediate comfort via instant hydration and a glossy finish. Sure, this product can do those things I mentioned but it’s just not the same. This is more of like a gel-tint that is very popular in the Asian Beauty scene.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice formula. It’s just not a Lip Oil.
Instead, it’s a glossy, non-sticky gel-tint that stains your lips. It’s fully opaque after one swipe so use it sparingly if you wish for a lighter distribution of the pigments. The initial colour after application oxidises and gets darker on the lips. Once the shine from the tint wears off, you are left with a very beautiful stain which is quite long-wearing. The stain gets lighter after heavy meals but easily survives snacks and drinks. Re-application is also quite noob-proof with these.
It’s a comfortable formula so it’s just a good product to have in your purse/collection.
I really do like this product, but I just get pissed off about how I got swindled into buying an overpriced Lip Tint. It’s not a Lip Oil. In fact, I have a product that’s 1/3rd of the price of these with almost the same formula. It’s time for a Battle post, I think.
