Review: Sugar It’s A Pout Time Vivid Lipstick in ‘#02 Breaking Bare’.

Sugar It's A-Pout Time Vivid Lipstick Breaking Bare

Hi, guys. I wrote about two of the Sugar Lip crayons just last month and when I got an email about the launch of their new lisptick line, I ordered one right away. There were no hesitations whatsoever.

THE BACKSTORY: I was very impressed by Sugar’s lip crayons and how well they lasted. That’s all a student asks for, you know? Hassle-free products that last the entire day. Last time, the products were named after fictional characters while this time, they are a juxtaposition of a popular TV show and a hue.

THE PRODUCT: The lipstick glides on smoothly, without tugging on your lips and is easy to apply/maneuver to fit to your lip shape. The formulation is creamy and the final finish is semi-matte. The tiniest amount of sheen can be seen but that’s only if you’re fussy about it – it’s a near-matte formula, otherwise. A comfortable one, at that.

It extremely easy and comfortable to wear and is weightless (unless of course, you layer it on multiple times). Like any other matte lisptick, it is incredibly long-wearing and tends to last for a good 4 hours (provided you don’t eat anything extremely oily). It also fades off gracefully and not in ugly, awkward blotches.

One thing I will say is that it tends to bleed a little. But that problem is easily fixed – you can either use a lip-liner or blot it down. I tend to layer on a single coat, take a cotton bud and blend it out. Even then, the stain it leaves is opaque and evident.

THE SHADES: There are 4 shades available currently:

  • The Big Bang Berry – A shade of wine.
  • Mad Magenta – A shade of magenta. (Perhaps I’ll get this in the near future. It’s definitely a colour I’ll get some use out of!)
  • Coraline in the City – A shade of coral.
  • Breaking Bare – The one pictured and reviewed. It’s described as a rose pink. It is a pretty colour. The only problem I have with it (it’s a personal problem, relax) is that it isn’t a shade I would go for on a regular basis. I can see a lot of girls liking this shade. Some girls may even find this to be the perfect nude for them. However, it is too earthy for my liking and there’s not nearly enough pink in it. I think it is a dusty mauve shade with the tiniest bit of rosiness – it’ll be gorgeous in Autumn or as the point-choice of a “Dried Rose” look.

From Top to Bottom: MAC’s Spirit, Etude House’s Goodness Beige, SUGAR’s Breaking Bare, MAC’s Crème In Your Coffee and SUGAR’s Holly Golightly.

COMPARISONS: I scoured through my stash of similar-looking nude shades only to be disappointed. None of the nude lipsticks I own are this earthy or have this amount of pinkish-peach running through them. Funny thing is, the closest I got was with Sugar’s own ‘Holly Golightly’. There are a few similarities between the two; but ‘Holly Golightly’ is more peachy while ‘Breaking Bare’ has more pinkish undertones.

PRICE: 599 INR for 3.5 grams of product.
