Hi, there. You’re probably already aware of Yves Saint Laurent’s notable presence in the luxury beauty market. If not, they are much loved for their impeccable formulas and stunning packaging. If you’ve come across a YSL Beauty counter, you might have been blinded by their elegance. Even if you go to their counter with a well thought out list of items you wish to purchase, chances are, you might just end up going home with a lot more things than you had planned. You are not to be blamed and nobody’s judging you.
THE BACKSTORY: You know, those good old Chinese restaurants have that mat that contains all the signs of the Chinese Zodiac on it followed by explanations of characteristics and famous people born under them? Yeah, that’s where I first spotted the name Yves Saint Laurent; when I was a little kid. I didn’t share the same Chinese Zodiac sign as him, I was born in the Year of the Boar, but his name just stayed with me. Years later, when I saw the same name pop up on Sephora’s website, I decided to take a peek. What happened next is I wound up staying on the site for quite some time.
THE PRODUCT: The packaging of the VOLUPTÉ SHEER CANDY line is silver. It’s not the standard gold packaging that everyone identifies the brand with. It’s a refreshing change, if you will. There are still gold accents, though. Gold accents along with the shade matching your lipstick adorn the middle part of the lipstick.
It’s easily one of the best lipstick formulas you’ll ever try. The lipstick has rosemary and pomegranate extract, along with Gamma Oryzanol that protects the lips from premature ageing. It also has candellila resin in it which forms a thin protective layer on the lips to help lock in the moisture and magnify the colour particles on the lips. Although it’s technically a glossy lip balm, the perfection that can be achieved with this product easily qualifies it as a sheer lipstick.
The shade ‘Succulent Pomegranate’ is a sheer bright pink with red undertones. It feels weightless on the lips, it hydrates extremely well (and for hours, too), smells fruity and disposes a lovely wash of colour on the lips. Check out more shades here.

- Extremely hydrating. You lips will still be left feeling plush hours later.
- The colour, though sheer, is buildable.
- It has a slight fruity scent.
- Gorgeous, gorgeous packaging.
- Doesn't feel heavy on the lips.
Cons
- The price stings. But we mustn't forget that it's a luxury brand..
- The fruity scent may irritate some of the sensitive noses. It doesn't last long, though.
