Long time no see. I finally have a break at work and I’m now typing with fervour. I have to get this (YEARS-late) review off my chest. Let’s get started.
THE BACKSTORY: Bobbi Brown has been steadily climbing up the ranks in my personal collection. I find it’s a noob-proof brand and I often find myself reaching out for their products whenever I’m unsure. They make especially decent lip products.
You have to push the packaging at the top to make the component come out.
THE PRODUCT: These Lip Jelly Sticks were aimed to ride the hype the Crushed lip colour line had created a few years ago. The colour-coded packaging and the rectangular shape also indicate the same.
The packaging of this is rather unique. Not only is it hefty, but you have to push the top down to reveal the component. The bullet also has an unusual rounded shape (found often in cream blushes and seldom in lip products). I find the shape does make it easy enough for you to smack the product on and bolt out the door. That being said, it is not ideal for precise application. Then again, I don’t suppose you’d be looking for precision in a sheer lipstick/balm hybrid.
Like I had mentioned, this is a lipstick/balm hybrid. It’s comfortable on the lips like a balm but has enough colour to warrant the (sheer) lipstick label. You can also tack on a couple of layers to get a more vivid pigment out of these. It’s quite hydrating on the lips and wears well throughout the day, provided you don’t eat or drink anything. Thankfully, re-application is a breeze with these and you can reapply as and when you like.
I do like the formula on these a lot and I had a fun time going over the swatches. I ended up picking this colour because these kinds of blue-pinks used to be one of my most favourite hues to sport when I was younger (read: pre-pandemic).
SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: There were a handful of very pretty colours available. The one I ended up with is
- Lilac – it’s a lovely blue-toned fuchsia.
PRICE AND QUANTITY: It was approximately $29 USD for 3 grams of product.
AM I SAD IT’S DISCONTINUED?
Not particularly. The formula, while nice, is something that Bobbi Brown does well under other monikers.
Final verdict, I’m not sad it has been discontinued.
