I came back quicker than everyone anticipated, right? I want to discuss this little Gucci number today.
THE BACKSTORY: Gucci’s beauty line is inspired by vintage packaging and colour-stories. That, of course, caught the attention of my magpie eyes. I initially wanted to invest in a compact of theirs (powder, blush, whatever it may be) but then I settled for one of their sheer lipstick formulations.
THE PRODUCT: I swiped the description of the component off of Gucci’s official site. They say that each lipstick is “presented in a precious gold-toned casing topped with a porcelain effect ivory lacquered cover decorated with a delicate rosebud print”. Fitting. The component is also quite hefty, which I appreciate and it clicks shut.
The Gucci logo is also embossed onto the bullet itself, like most high-end lipsticks.
I quite like the formula of this one – despite being sheer, it can be built up. Despite the light opacity, the pigments on this are very rich. It is creamy enough to glide on the lips, without tugging, and it also doesn’t settle on lip-lines (which is something I always appreciate).
Since it is a sheer balm-lipstick hybrid, it has a luminous finish. It also isn’t very long-wearing for the exact same reason. However, re-application is a breeze and a mirror isn’t even needed, given how forgiving the formula is.
The moisture that the product provides is retained by the lips even after the colour itself is long-gone, I’ve found.
The one complaint I have is just me being extremely nitpicky – the scent of this lipstick occasionally feels too overwhelming and I simply find myself wincing at the thought of getting the scent anywhere near my nose. It has that very old-timey, powdery, floral scent that I absolutely can never, ever digest.
That being said, the lipstick itself is quite stunning. It’s lightweight, comfortable, sheer yet build-able and the pretty component makes whipping it out of your purse for application a delight.
