Starting off the reviews for this year with a product line I tend to reach out for a lot these days. That was a mouthful. Let’s get started.
THE BACKSTORY: I tried one of these (Bare Pink) on a whim a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Not as much as my Dior Lip Glows but it was a close, close second. Anyway, I bought a couple more shades to build my collection.
THE PRODUCT: These come packaged in the signature rectangular Bobbi Brown components. The noticeable difference for these is that the components are pearlised white with a black band in the middle. The lids click shut, which is something I always appreciate.
The formula on these is fantastic – they go on smoothly (as one would expect of a balm) and immediately coat the lips in a plush, emollient layer. I often smack my lips together after generously applying some on my bottom lip.
The colour payoff on these is sheer. Over the years of being a makeup consumer, I’ve always loved tinted, sheer lip-formulations the most. These are no exception. In fact, I think the tint on these are among my top favourites.
These have a balmy finish and most of them do not contain any shimmer or pearls. However, special-occasion shades are released from time to time containing shimmer/pearls, which, most likely, will have a different finish.
These are also rather hydrating and comfortable.
Please note that these are pH-adjusting balms. While the lighter colours aren’t particularly different from one another, the darker colours do have a more distinct tonal difference. Some pH-adjusting products can have a very neon note in them but I don’t find that to be the case with these.
I also find these to be rather long-wearing. Even if the colour wears off after the meal, I find that the moisture remains.
SWATCHES AND SHADES AVAILABLE: I believe there are 6 shades available, at the moment (at least in my country) –
- Bare Punch
- Bare Nude – A versatile warm-toned nude.
- Bare Melon
- Bare Raspberry – A lovely translucent red.
- Bare Blackberry
- Bare Pink – The OG. Morphs into a natural shade of pink.

♥ OVERALL: I think these are some of the best higher-end tinted balms. These are ultra moisturising sheer bursts of colour that will suit any outfit, any mood.
I discovered these years ago and absolutely love everything about them. Sometimes you can get these on a special purchase or other discount offered on Bobbie browns website. I do find the color lasts a long time and doesn’t transfer to my mask.
I really wish they’d come out with a few more colours! The formulation is great!
