It’s been a while, hi. I’m going to town on some matcha-flavoured Pocky as I type this. Matcha flavoured things always calm me down so I’m not surprised I’m here to post something. I’m happy to be back.
THE BACKSTORY: I bought the first one of these on a whim. I saw it was on sale so I just grabbed one to try out years ago. I mean, I’ve always liked the ease of liquid shadows so I’m not surprised I have more than one in my collection right now. The idea of these isn’t anything novel, by the way. Brands have done this for ages. I suddenly remembered this post on a similar product.
THE PRODUCT: So these come packaged in a really nice dual-ended rectangular component. Both sides contain two different types of liquid eyeshadows; one side has matte liquid shadow while the other has shimmery/metallic liquid shadow. Both the colours are either a similar hue or are very complementary. The brushes on both ends are very different – the side that houses the matte liquid eyeshadow has a flat paddle applicator while the side that houses the shimmery liquid eyeshadow has a brush-tip applicator.
Let’s talk about the product inside.
I found that the liquid eyeshadows on the matte end were very pigmented and opaque. They have a quick dry-down so you only have a handful of seconds to blend things out. Of course, glopping product on would never work with these kinds of products so working with smaller quantities and in sections was always the safest bet. Once it set, it would not budge.
I found the shimmery side little finicky to work with. Applying it on top of the already-set matte shadow often wound up feeling a little heavy, especially on my hooded eyelids. But they were very pretty to look at so I’d often pick up a little on a separate brush and just dab some on top of my bare lids.
I didn’t have much luck layering these two sides. They’d crease, feel dry and uncomfortable.
These aren’t the kind of slap-and-go liquid eyeshadows I like and am used to. They require more effort and can produce amazing results. You just have to be really patient with them and try your best to blend everything out before it sets.

♥ OVERALL: These are a product of their time and I feel like the Midori of the present doesn’t particularly enjoy them. That being said, they’re fun to have at your disposal and use for special events/festivals. I’d recommend waiting for a sale to pick one up.
